BOYNECLARKE LLP is partnering with Dartmouth school Prince Andrew High to take part in their community Co-operative Education program from October to December 2014.

Student Morgan Wong will join the Dartmouth firm on October 9, completing eight work hours per week over a 12 week period. Morgan will have the opportunity to job shadow various lawyers, rotating through the different practice areas the firm has to offer.

“From a teacher’s perspective, co-op is one of the most beneficial courses a student can take. It provides students with an inside perspective on a selected career through a 100-hour authentic work placement where they are submerged in the culture of the workplace provided by community hosts,” states Ron Stewart, Teacher and Coordinator of the Co-op program at Prince Andrew High. “Overall students learn as much about themselves as they do about the career they are investigating.”

Prior to the work placement, students first complete an in-class component where they learn about occupational health and safety, receive certification in safety training, and are prepped with cover letter, resume writing, and interviewing skills.

As an employer of the program, BOYNECLARKE LLP has a commitment to mentor the student, and engage them with responsibilities that allow the student to develop skills and explore the career of interest to them.

BOYNECLARKE’s Managing Partner, Jamie MacNeil speaks about the firm’s involvement,

“It was an easy decision for us to participate in the co-op program; we have always been a big supporter of the Dartmouth community and especially educational programs. We hope to provide Morgan with valuable experience he can take with him in all of his future endeavours.”

Co-operative Education 11 and 12 has been offered at Prince Andrew High for approximately 15 years, helping students achieve personal growth with their fundamental, personal management and teamwork skills.
