This student blog series is written by Prince Andrew High School student Morgan Wong.
As a high school student it is both difficult and scary to choose what you want to do for the rest of your life. You rarely know if what you think you want to do is really what you want to do. My name is Morgan Wong, and I am enrolled in the Cooperative Education Program at Prince Andrew High School. The Cooperative Education Program gives students the opportunity to test drive future careers by pairing them up with an organization and allowing them to work in a chosen field of interest for one hundred hours. BOYNECLARKE LLP has partnered with Prince Andrew High School so that once a week for twelve weeks I can come to the firm to get hands on learning experiences.
My mother has her Paralegal diploma and that helped peak my interest in the legal field from a young age. A month ago the idea of going to law school was just that an idea. In the short time I’ve been with the firm I have been able to start building connections that will help me further along in my career path. The firm has welcomed me with open arms and taken an interest in showing me different areas of law. On my second day at the firm I was paired with a lawyer that brought me along to court. It was an amazing experience to see a lawyer defend a client in that setting.
I have gotten to see the different elements that come together to help a law firm operate effectively and efficiently. I recently shadowed in the area of Family Law and found out that it is an area of interest to me. During my time with the Family Law Team I went through a few different cases and heard firsthand how a lawyer got to be where they are today. When I first started I thought I would be most interested in the area of Criminal Law, but as of now I am most interested in Family Law.
Throughout the past few weeks I have met a bunch of really nice people who have and continue to share their knowledge of the law with me. In addition, I have gone to court and learned about many different areas of law. I also attended a deposition which I found interesting.
Over the next little while I will continue to work with different practice areas to learn more about BOYNECLARKE LLP’s operations. So far I’ve had a lot of fun and the experience has been great. I cannot wait to see what else the firm can teach me. Even though it is only my third day in, I have already learned so much.
This is an amazing experience and I am appreciative to BOYNECLARKE LLP for making this possible. I intend to make the most out of my time here. I can definitely see myself doing this for the rest of my life.
