Over the past few months BOYNECLARKE LLP has been participating in the Emergency Services Achievement Program (E.S.A.P), a career oriented instructional program designed to assist youth in overcoming multiple barriers to employment.

Funded through Service Canada, ESAP coordinator Bernie Scott assists participants in selecting a career area of personal interest and finding a community placement for them to complete a paid work term where they will achieve job-readiness skills development and workplace experience.

Katie Murray heard about the ESAP program through her husband.

“I have four small children and have been at home raising them for the past five years. I’d had my training as a paralegal, but with very little work experience and no paralegal experience at all, finding work at all became a challenge. I had almost resigned myself to the fact that may never come along.”

Scott got in touch with BOYNECLARKE LLP Director of Human Resources, Wendy Shulman to inquire about a paralegal work placement in their offices for Murray.

“Bernie got me an interview at BOYNECLARKE LLP. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made. They have opened their arms to me, given me a chance to prove myself, even in the absence of job experience, paralegal experience and references. Because of them I will learn and experience things I may never have had the chance to, With their patience with the thousands of questions I’ve asked…THOUSANDS..I want to extend my profound appreciation to those who have helped me through this journey.”

After successfully completing the program, and with the firm continuing to grow, Shulman announced that Katie has been hired on with the firm full time.

“I am pleased to say that our firm is taking on new office space in the coming weeks to accommodate our growth.  I am also pleased to say that we have hired Katie permanently as a paralegal and one of those new desks has her name on it.  We look forward to seeing Katie develop and grow in her new career with the firm.”
