Senior Manager, People and Culture

Reporting to our Vice President, this unique and exciting opportunity is ideally suited for a seasoned HR professional who thrives in a dynamic business environment with a focus on supporting employees and nurturing a culture we can all be proud of.
This newly created HR role is a blend of hands-on and strategic work – an ideal opportunity for a skilled communicator with solid business acumen and the HR generalist foundation needed to make a lasting contribution. The Senior Manager, People and Culture will foster solid relationships with employees and be actively engaged in the following key areas of our business: Culture & Employee Engagement; Recruitment, Retention and Succession Planning; Growth & Performance; Wellness Initiatives; Training and Development; Internal Communications and Employment Legislation.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Support a positive employee experience by consistently leading with respect and a focus on collaboration, progress, and growth;
Lead and refine the implementation of our People and Culture strategy;
Primary HR point of contact to advise, coach, and assists lawyers and/or managers with employee relations, including solution-focused resolution and mediation of employee concerns, investigation of employee complaints, and seeking to genuinely understand challenges to support the continuous improvement of the employee experience;
Manage, coach, and empower direct reports - HR Program Manager and HR Administrator - share expertise, lend support, and promote a positive employee experience;
Establish and maintain positive relationships with internal stakeholders;
Manage and align employee lifecycle activities including; recruitment, onboarding, internal resourcing, retention, and offboarding, with active support from the HR Program Manager and HR Administrator;
Identify and pro-actively attract talent; work with HR Program Manager to align recruitment and on‐boarding practices;
Manage the firm’s Performance Management Program to support employee professional growth, including conducting performance reviews, monitoring staff performance, managing employees through PIP, and working with lawyers to support performance improvements and performance issues;
Support innovation, process improvement, and change management for HR programs and initiatives;
Work with lawyers, practice groups, and internal stakeholders to identify workflow challenges as they relate to the performance of staff in support of the professional growth of our team members; work closely with HR Program Manager to address any required workflow enhancements;
Contribute to the development, communication, and implementation of policies, procedures, and guidelines;
Work with the HR team and internal stakeholders to ensure legal compliance in all aspects of the practice;
Provide HR budget input and work closely with VP and HR Program Manager to monitor spend;
Maintain a high degree of confidentiality and discretion at all times.
Qualifications and Skills
A minimum of 10 full years of dedicated HR generalist experience, in roles with a progressive increase in responsibility;
Post-Secondary education (degree or certificate) in Human Resources or related field preferred;
Prior experience in a professional services environment would be considered a significant asset;
Positive, authentic, cross-culturally sensitive with the ability to thrive in a team environment;
Demonstrated ability to make independent decisions, manage priorities, probe, analyze and problem-solve issues;
Genuinely engaging approach with excellent written, oral, presentation, and interpersonal skills;
Flexible and adaptable, with a sharp focus on meeting individual, team, and company objectives;
Experience leading respectful and effective conflict resolution;
Financial acumen and experience with budget preparation and monitoring;
Strong organizational skills, including effective prioritization and follow-up;
Proven ability to respond professionally to sensitive inquiries or complaints;
Technically adaptable with a solid grasp of MS Office and HR tools, such as LinkedIn and HRIS (BambooHR);
Knowledge of legislative compliance with respect to relevant employment, labour, and health & safety legislation.
