About Greg

Greg Short is BOYNECLARKE’s Director of IT, working behind the scenes with his team to ensure the smooth operation and security of our systems.

From the moment he first saw a computer, Greg was keenly interested.

Born and raised in the remote mining community of Wabush, Labrador, Greg could have graduated high school and walked straight into a well-paying, secure job with the mine. Instead, he followed his interests to Stephenville, Newfoundland where he took a 3-year Community College course in computer programming.

Within a few years, he found himself in Halifax where he took a job at a computer company in shipping and receiving. One day an employee from IT found himself short-staffed and invited Greg to help. Just one year later, Greg found himself in a leadership role with that company.

After working in the industry for a few years, Greg was hired as BOYNECLARKE’s first in-house IT staff member in March 1995.
“I was very reluctant to take the job. There was one main computer where everyone’s files were stored and one file server. I was worried that there wasn’t going to be anything for me to do,” he remembers.

Fast forward to today, Greg oversees a team of professionals, the firm’s countless computers, dozens of file servers, and continuously growing IT needs. As Greg puts it, “I’ve seen a lot of change.”

Greg remains here because he loves it, plainly put.

“In all of the years I’ve been here, I have never woken up and dreaded going to work.”

Greg appreciates the close-knit, people-first atmosphere that we foster at BOYNECLARKE. “It [is] really friendly, and there is no pretention. Just because [someone else] wears a suit and I wear blue jeans, I ‘m [never] made to feel inferior. I can just be me,” he explains with a smile.

In his free time Greg enjoys spending time with his step-children and grandchildren. He is a self-proclaimed foodie and wino, with a deep love for music.
